USA – Mikhail McLean takes another major step in his coaching career and joins the staff of one of the most storied programs in college basketball.

McLean was named an assistant coach for Kentucky wildcats men’s basketball, the latest hire under the new Mark Pope era in Lexington.

McLean spent the last 3 seasons as an assistant coach for Lamar University.

Prior to Lamar, McLean spent six seasons at his alma mater – the houston cougars.

Following his playing days on the court, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant and eventually progressed to the assistant director of player development.

At the national team level McLean has been an assistant coach and defensive coordinator with The Bahamas senior men’s national team since 2021.

McLean becomes the third in a group of young Bahamian coaches this offseason to receive new coaching positions with NCAA Division I programs following Tum Tum Nairn’s promotion to associate head coach at Bowling Green and Nashad Mackey named assistant coach at USC Upstate.

Both coaches discussed how to implement their respective defensive concepts.
