HAWAII – Members of the U.S. Army and National Guard assisted Hawaiian first responders on Tuesday as they continued search and rescue efforts following deadly wildfires that ravaged the Maui resort town of Lahaina last week.

The inferno killed at least 106 people and charred a 5-square-mile area of town within hours.

Officials say, the fire, which caught residents by surprise, destroyed 2,200 buildings and caused an estimated $5.5 billion in damage.
