UNITED STATES – A couple Bahamian track and field legends were back and made strong statements in their season openers.
Shaunae Miller-Uibo won the women’s 300 meters at the Alachua County sports and event center invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
Competing in her first indoor race in four years, the former world and olympic champion set a facility record with a time of 36.07 seconds, the third-fastest performance of her career and currently the second-fastest time in the world so far this season.
Miller-Uibo, owns the world best indoor 300-meter time at 35.45 seconds set at the Millrose Games in 2018.
Her last world outdoor title was in 2022, since then she continues to work her way back after several injuries and giving birth.
Meanwhile, at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, two-time world indoor champion and world record holder Devynne Charlton opened her season in the women’s 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in 7.92 seconds.
Jamaica’s Danielle Williams won the event with a world-leading time of 7.87 seconds.
Charlton is scheduled to compete again at the Millrose Games in New York this coming weekend.
Also in action at the New Balance Grand Prix, Terrence Jones finished fourth in the men’s 60 meters, clocking 6.60 seconds.
Tennis
The 2026 Nassau Cup wrapped up on Saturday after three weekends of play at the John McEnroe Tennis Center at the Baha Mar Resort.
The final round delivered a surprise finish as defending champions Rum Club lost all three matches to Cable Beach, opening the door for team Baha Mar, led by captain Josh Herman, to surge ahead and claim the 2026 cup title, the first in team history.
Baha Mar finished first with 12.5 wins, followed by Cable Beach with 12, and Waterloo in third with 10.5.
The tournament concluded with a special pro money match, won by Rasheed Carey and Jamal Adderley.
The event brought together professionals, top juniors, club players and amateurs.
Juco Track & Field
Carlos Brown Jr. is off to a strong start to his collegiate track and field career representing New Mexico Junior College.
Brown continued his early season form for the T-Birds at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas where he ran a personal best 6.67 seconds in the men’s 60 meters.
Last week he made his collegiate debut for NMJC at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas qualifying nationally in the 60 meters with a time of 6.71 seconds, while also clocking 21.78 seconds in the 200 meters.
Brown’s impact at the collegiate level builds on an impressive 2025 season, where he ran a personal best 10.04 seconds in the 100 meters and posted times of 20.92 and 20.77 seconds in the 200 meter.
