NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Thousands of traffic accidents in 2022 prompting the relaunch of a road safety campaign. The latest statistics from the ministry of transport and how the program will target drivers young and old.

Recent statistics from the Ministry of Transport reveal 6,000 traffic accidents were recorded in 2022 with approximately 59 traffic fatalities.

The numbers prompted the relaunch of a campaign under the theme “slow down, stay alive”.

Acting Transport Minister Jomo Campbell says additional data shows most of the victims were young Bahamian men.

Campbell says the program will be led by a national road safety council.

The week of March 6th has been deemed road safety week and several activities have been organized.

Among them – a road safety outreach initiative.

Campbell, who was contributing to the mid-year budget debate says efforts are also being made to enhance and improve vehicle inspection and testing at the Road Traffic Department.
