GRAND BAHAMA , BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis announced yesterday evening that the country’s next general election will be held on Tuesday, May 12.

We took to the streets of Grand Bahama to see who’s registered, who’s not, and how residents are feeling about the upcoming election.

Once Parliament is dissolved, voter registration will close, giving Bahamians until April 8 to register.

The Prime Minister is encouraging every eligible Bahamian to take part in the process with seriousness, respect, and faith in democracy.

In Grand Bahama, we found that some residents are registered and ready to vote, while others are not, and some remain undecided.

Grand Bahama resident Theodore Newton is registered but is not pleased with how things are going on the island, while Grand Bahama resident Celestine Russell, who is also registered, is more optimistic.

However, Grand Bahama resident David Laroda is not registered and says he has no plans to vote.

This woman, who did not give her name, felt as if there wasn’t enough time to register.

We also caught up with resident Cahmeel Pinder while she waited in line to register. Although she expressed that she’s unsure her vote will make a difference.

And when it comes to the state of Grand Bahama, residents also shared differing views.

However, Grand Bahama resident Kindra Humes believes things have already improved and is ready to vote.
