More Needs To Be Done to Get Abaco Back Where It Was

ABACO, BAHAMAS – Four years after Hurricane Dorian ravaged parts of Abaco, Local Government Council Chairman Roscoe Thompson says more needs to be done.

He says it seems the government’s efforts have slowed.

As Abaconians remember and pay respects to the lives lost in the monster storm, Thompson says many are still living in domes and still fighting to rebuild.

He says the government should continue with some measures left in place by the previous administration.

His comments came as Prime Minister Philip Davis and others visited the island this past Friday for a memorial and wreath laying ceremony.

While there, the prime minister admitted more could’ve been done by present and former governments.

Abaco was the first island in Dorian’s path on September 1st, 2019 taking many lives and leaving thousands more homeless.

While Thompson says he’s pleased with the natives’ resilience, he says the population still remains dismal.

Thompson also says there’s still a need for infrastructural development.

On the flip side many businesses have bounced back with many more moving into their new home.

However, according to Pastor Stephen Knowles, many are still battling with psychological trauma from the storm.

But despite the ongoing hardship both men say there’s a lot to be thankful for.
