SALT POND, LONG ISLAND – Concerns over the handling of medical emergencies on Family Islands remain following Sunday’s plane crash in Deadman’s Cay, Long Island, killing one woman and injuring six other survivors.

Residents tell our Kendeno Knowles, in addition to emergency care, an inoperable morgue and ambulance are keeping some of them on edge.

Bianca Major telling Our News that Sunday’s plane crash in Deadman’s Cay is a reminder of the
constant challenges the island faces in emergency situations, including an inoperable morgue in that settlement.

The lone survivor in that car crash back in January that killed two others on site, later died after being airlifted.

That incident put the spotlight on the pressing need for better healthcare systems in the Family Islands, before this latest tragedy.

It’s a need that has long been a concern for Long Island residents, and the wider community.
