NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A mother whose four-year-daughter was murdered by her live-in boyfriend today asked a court for a second chance.

Ostonya Walker is behind bars awaiting sentencing for child cruelty and exposing D’Onya Bella Walker to grievous harm.

The pre-schooler was murdered on November 5, 2021 by Darion Smith while her mother was at work.

He pleaded guilty to her murder and was sentenced to 25 years as part of a plea deal.

Walker also pleaded guilty; however, Justice Renae McKay will decide her sentence.

Her lawyer, public defender, Dorsey McPhee, suggested that Walker receive an unconditional discharge.

However, the prosecutor suggested that Walker deserved to be sentenced to five years in prison.

Addressing the court herself, Walker said, “I am humbly asking the court to give me another chance to prove myself a loving, caring and respectable mother. A  chance to prove that I can and will be a better mother than what I have been portrayed to be.”

Justice McKay will give her decision in July.
