NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A mother faced child cruelty charges after prosecutors said her young children started a fire when she left them home alone.

The charges stem from an incident that took place on February 19.

The 29-year-old allegedly left her 10-year-old daughter and six-year-old son unattended.

While unsupervised, the children allegedly tried to cook a meal and started a fire.

The mother, whose name has been withheld to protect her children’s identities, pleaded not guilty to allegations that she neglected her children.

She was granted $7,000 bail and her trial is set for March 24.
