BJ Murray Hits Clutch Home Run to Help The Cubs Get a Win In Spring Training

ARIZONA, USA – Chicago Cubs Minor League player showed everyone why he was named to the 2023 MLB Futures game against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.

The New Providence-born infielder, who was hitless in three spring-training at-bats, got into yesterday afternoon’s game at the top of the 6th inning to play third base. He would come up to bat at the bottom of the 8th with the game tied at 5 apiece. Hitting from the left side of the plate with bases cleared, he got a hold of a 0-1 pitch from Angels relief pitcher Jimmy Herget and, well… his first hit was a big one.

Murray’s Cubs would hang on to get the win over the Angels 6-5, thanks to his long fly. 

Murray is unlikely to begin his season with the Major League team, and will probably start off in AAA with the Cubs’ Iowa affiliate. But if he keeps hitting like this in the preseason, anything is possible.
