NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Mychel Thompson’s journey with Bahamas basketball has been indicative of the program’s continuity at the senior national team level.

Thompson was a standout performer as a player over a  seven year span but has recently made the transition to the bench as a member of the coaching staff.

He began his senior national team journey in 2014 has seen the program grow from competing at the regional Level to the highest on the international stage, one win away from the Olympics.

He noted the growth of the program and the impact playing at home this weekend in the americup qualifier.

The Bahamas hosts Cuba tonight at 8:40pm at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.

NCAA Swimming

Lamar Taylor delivered a series of record breaking swims at the sec championships.

The graduate transfer in his first year with the Tennessee Volunteers had both team and individual success At the meet in Athens, Georgia.

Taylor was a member of the 200 free relay team that set a new NCAA record on day three of the event.

Taylor swam the third leg of the quartet that finished in 1:12.80 seconds to surpass the previous record of 1:13.35 seconds held by florida.

His split was recorded at 18.25 seconds.

It  also marked the Vols’ first NCAA title in the event since 2001.

Individually, in the 50m free, Taylor won the b final in 18.82 seconds, now ranked number three in program history.

According to swimswam, Taylor is the first swimmer in NCAA history to break an NCAA record in the same event at the Division I and Division II levels. He was a six-time national champion at Henderson State before joining Tennessee.

Basketball

The 41st Hugh Campbell Invitational moved into day three. Headlined by Family Island teams hitting the court for the first time at this year’s event.

G.B.S.S.A Champion, the Tabernacle Baptist Falcons had one of the most lopsided wins of the tournament so far, 75-26 over the S.C. Bootle Dolphins.

Other games on Wednesday night’s evening session included Sunland Stingers over Patrick J. Bethel 42-22, Agape over St. George’s 42-38 and the G.S.S.S.A Champion Anatol Rodgers T’wolves defeated the Gateway Eagles 58-31.

In session one, the B.A.I.S.S. Champion SJC Giants won 58-38 over the Kingsway Saints, Gateway defeated the Eight Mile Rock Blue Jays 45-28, Agape defeated the Bishop Michael Eldon Warriors 52-17 and S.C. Bootle won 60-55 over South Andros.
