NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Preparations are still underway to send troops to help clamp down on the violence in Haiti.

National Security Minister Wayne Munroe gave the update just days after Kenya pledged an additional 600 for Haiti.

Haiti has been grappling with severe political, social, and economic turmoil since the assassination of president Jovenel Moïse in july 2021.

The situation worsened with growing calls for the resignation of President Ariel Henry and the rise of gang violence, leading to a state of emergency in the country.

The Bahamas is one of several countries in the region promising troops be sent to Haiti.

When it comes to why they’re still waiting to be deployed, Munroe said documents still need to be signed off on and finalized.

The Davis administration has made it clear it will help as much as it can.

Both Prime Minister Philip Davis and Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell, have pledged support over and over.

Even former Prime Minister Perry Christie, a member of CARICOM’s Eminent Persons Group, has been tasked with helping find solutions to the dire crisis.
