The victim, identified as Alex Pretti, who was an intensive care nurse, was killed Saturday, prompting hundreds of demonstrators to converge on the neighborhood.

Authorities deployed tear gas and flashbangs as protests spread beyond Minnesota, with demonstrations reported in New York, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.

The incident marks the second fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis this month, further straining relations between state officials and the Trump administration.
