NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It was the cries of a baby that caught the attention of a Pinewood Gardens resident last Saturday, leading him to a heroic discovery he’d never forget.

Witness –

“ As I leave my house, approaching the dead end, and going to my cousin’s down on the next corner, a vehicle was parked. A vehicle was parked up right there, so as they approached the vehicle, they was hearing a baby crying.”

“I started to look [in] the boat, look in the grass, look by the window. As they approached the car, a baby was locked inside the car, I tried to open up the car, the car wasn’t open. I put my ears by the trunk, I heard the crying got even louder.”

The man who wishes to remain anonymous says he and a relative tried unsuccessfully to open the trunk before calling the police.

A statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force said officers responded shortly after 11.30 p.m on December 27 to a report of a baby crying inside the trunk of a vehicle on Sequoia Street in Pinewood Gardens.

When they got there, officers located a locked blue Hyundai Elantra with the sound of an infant coming from inside.

The witness says within minutes after arriving, those officers forced entry into the vehicle.

Witness –

“ We call the police, it was right through the next corner, and they come to the corner and they break the glass open. The baby boy [was] in the trunk, in the box, wrap up in blue blanket.”

“ I never witness nothing like that, and [I] only see them stuff on TV and whats not”

According to the witness, the baby appeared to be only a few days old with the umbilical cord still attached.

Police say they later located the infant’s parents inside a nearby home, where they were reportedly asleep with their two other children, ages one and six.

Both parents were taken into custody.

It’s unclear if and when charges will be filed in the case.
