New Bahamian U20 National Records Set in Oregon

UNITED STATES- Team Bahamas closed out competition at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Oregon, with five Bahamian athletes competing in finals across track and field.

Zion Davis led the way in the men’s 400 meters, finishing fifth in the world in 46.00 seconds.

Davis had earlier advanced to the final with a 45.86-second performance in the semifinals, putting him in position to challenge for a medal in one of the biggest races of his young career.

In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Jachario Wilson also finished fifth, clocking 13.08 seconds.

Wilson’s performance was even more impressive because it produced a new Bahamas Under-20 national record, after he had already set a new national U20 mark in the semifinals.

Kenny Moxey Jr. made history in the decathlon, becoming the first Bahamian to compete in the event at the World Junior Championships.

Moxey finished 18th overall with 7,179 points, also setting a new Bahamas Under-20 national record.

In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Kei-Marie Hanna finished seventh in 58.17 seconds.

And in the women’s javelin, Taysha Stubbs placed ninth with a best throw of 48.64 meters.

While the Bahamas did not add a medal during the final days, the team left Oregon with national records, history-making performances, and valuable world-class experience for a group of athletes who are still in the early stages of their careers.

2026 CAC Games

Serena Brown’s remarkable comeback has reached another milestone, with the Bahamian discus thrower winning silver at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.

Brown produced a best throw of 59.32 meters to claim second place in the women’s discus, adding a CAC Games medal to what has already been an impressive return to competition.

And this medal is the latest chapter in a comeback that has been years in the making.

Brown stepped away from competitive athletics for five years after establishing herself as one of the Bahamas’ top throwers.

She returned to competition in 2026 and quickly began rebuilding her form.

In May, she won the women’s discus at the Throws U Series in Pennsylvania, throwing 51.70 meters.

Then came the breakthrough.

On June 7 in Oklahoma, Brown threw 61.26 meters to win the Oklahoma Throws Series and set a new Bahamian national record. That mark improved on her previous record of 60.92 meters, set at the 2021 Bahamas National Championships.

That 61.26-meter throw also put Brown back on the world stage, with the mark ranking her among the world’s top discus throwers this season.

Now, just two months into her comeback, Brown has added a CAC Games silver medal to her resume.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for an athlete who spent five years away from the sport.

Sailors Just Miss Podium

The Bahamas also produced two strong finishes in the sailing competition.

Joshua Higgins finished fourth in his ILCA event, while Eliza Denning placed fifth.

Both Bahamians qualified for their respective finals, saving some of their best sailing for the final day of competition.

The results are particularly significant given the level of competition, with both Higgins and Denning competing against sailors from around the region and beyond who are working toward Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification.

For Team Bahamas, the results represent two more strong top-five finishes at the Games.

And for Brown, a silver medal provides another significant milestone in what has already become one of the more intriguing comeback stories in Bahamian athletics.

WNBA

Jonquel Jones helped the New York Liberty deliver one of their most dominant performances of the season, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 111-71.

Jones finished with 15 points and eight rebounds while shooting 3-for-6 from three-point range.

Her three-point shooting also produced a personal milestone, as Jones knocked down the 200th three-pointer of her Liberty career.

The Liberty never let up, cruising to the 40-point victory and improving their record to 20-13.

The win also puts New York in position to make a move at the top of the Eastern Conference.

The Liberty will have a chance to take the Eastern Conference lead when they face the Indiana Fever on Tuesday.

For Jones, it was another productive night and another milestone in what has been an impressive run in New York.
