GRAND BAHAMA – More investments for the blue economy and blue carbon credits are on the horizon. These updates come from Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis at the third annual Forum for Impact Americas Dialogue in Grand Bahama recently. Halkitis’s remarks covered how The Bahamas is leveraging impact and the ocean economy to establish a leadership position in Caribbean economic development, including a future investment through the Inter-American Development Bank Blue Economy Loan Facility.

The Economic Affairs Minister also gave updates on the highly anticipated development of blue carbon credits, where the government hopes to monetize the carbon-absorbing capacity of seagrass meadows in Bahamian waters.
