NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The U.S. is sending a new top diplomat to Haiti as gang violence spirals and tens of thousands flee their homes.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Ambassador Henry Wooster will take over as Chargé daffaires in Port-Au-Prince starting June 12th, tasked with leading U.S. efforts to support Haiti’s fragile security.

Wooster, a former ambassador to Jordan and U.S. army veteran, steps in as the United Nations (UN) warns over 50,000 people, including 15,000 children, have been displaced by violence just since April.
