ISRAEL- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel will not withdraw from its current positions in Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed, pushing back against a recent proposal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Netanyahu’s remarks cast further doubt on efforts to end the war and marked a rare public disagreement with the Trump administration over the path to a ceasefire.

Facing a difficult reelection campaign in October, Netanyahu reaffirmed that Hamas must be disarmed before any Israeli withdrawal, adding that Israeli forces will continue to “do whatever is necessary to protect themselves, our territory, and our citizens.”
