GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – In recognition of World Environment Day, MSC Cruises highlights their ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, located in The Bahamas.

In alignment with the 2025 global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” Ocean Cay has long taken major strides in reducing plastic waste and promoting circular practices:

  • Aluminum water bottles have replaced single-use plastics across the island.
  • A structured recycling program ensures waste is sorted, processed, and sent off-island for responsible disposal.
  • Staff and guests are encouraged to minimise plastic use through signage, education, and sustainable alternatives.

“At Ocean Cay, sustainability isn’t an option, it’s our operating model,” said Chuck Weech, Operations Manager. “We are committed to protecting our waters while showing the world that sustainable tourism is possible in The Bahamas.”

Through local hiring, environmental education, and plastic-free practices, Ocean Cay is helping to preserve paradise for future generations.
