Officer Facing Prosecution for Shooting Unarmed School Boy

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police Corporal Dennis Sturrup will be prosecuted after a Coroner’s jury recommended a manslaughter charge in the shooting death of an unarmed schoolboy seven years ago.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police Corporal Dennis Sturrup will be prosecuted after a Coroner’s jury recommended a manslaughter charge in the shooting death of an unarmed schoolboy seven years ago.

Sturrup fatally shot 15-year-old Gino Finley Jr after he dropped his gun during a police pursuit on May 23, 2017.

Finley, a tenth grade student of R M Bailey High School, was a suspect in the armed robbery of the QVS Pharmacy on Prince Charles Drive.

He was killed while allegedly fleeing the police officers who responded to the hold-up.

Sturrup was committed to stand trial when he was handed voluntary bill of indictment papers during a brief appearance before Coroner Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.
Sturrup remains on $9,900 bail.\

He’s scheduled to be arraigned before Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson on December 13.
