GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Sunshine, camaraderie, and competition came together on Sunday, May 4th as Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Co. hosted the 11th Annual Sands Golf Tournament at the Reef Golf Course.
A 9 AM shotgun started the lively spirited day on the greens, which included an afternoon lunch, and awards ceremony with plenty of ice-cold Sands Beer and Tito’s Vodka cocktails.
Regulars returned in full force, and new faces joined in the fun, all eager to compete in one of the most anticipated golf events on the island.
James ‘Jimmy’ Sands, CEO of Bahamian Brewery and Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits–
“Well, we had a lovely day out here at the Lucaya Reef Golf Course. Weather was perfect, participation was up, and we had a wonderful day here. A lovely lunch, and a great time had by all.”
“We are looking forward to next year, we hosted it a bit later in May, so we will see what we do next time, but I really want to thank my Bahamian Brewery team for putting on a magnificent show,” said Sands.
The blind pairing scramble format led to some exciting results and new winning combinations. Top honours for Net Score went to the team of Oswald “O.J.” Cooper and Vic Skinner, who credited their teamwork for the win.
“Me and my partner, Vic Skinner, we did a very good job, when he was down, I brought him back up, when I was down, he was good. We put it all together and we came out the winners,” Cooper said.
A loyal supporter of the tournament since its inception, Cooper added, “This is my eleventh year, I’ve never missed one. This is my second time actually winning.”
His partner, Skinner, also praised the event saying “Thank you very much to Jimmy’s for organizing this, it was well-organized and great fun!”
Richard Munnings Jr. and Greg Cooper claimed First Place Gross, while Ricardo Lightbourn and Neil Albury took Second Net. Second Gross went to Handford Bain and Sidney Pratt, with Third Net honours going to the team of Brenford Christie and Elvis Butler. Rounding out the top results, Sue Urban and Peter Collins walked away as the winning mixed team.
“I had a great time playing in the Sands tournament as usual, I got pretty lucky I won first gross net team and the ladies’ longest drive, so I am feeling pretty happy right now,” noted Sue Urban.
This year, Sands Beer was joined by Tito’s Vodka as a co-sponsor of the event. The popular brand, proudly distributed by Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits, added to the festivities by providing signature cocktails during the tournament and for the after-party.
Alex Watson, Tito’s Brand Manager–
“We were thrilled to be part of this year’s Sands Golf Tournament, it was a fantastic day of friendly competition, great weather, and even better company. We’re always proud to support events that bring people together—and of course, we were happy to shake up a few cocktails to help everyone celebrate a great day on the course,” said Watson.
The energy and spirit of the day reflected Bahamian Brewery’s ongoing commitment to supporting community events that foster connection, competition, and fun.
Robbie Butler, Purchasing Manager for Bahamian Brewery–
“This is an event our regulars look forward to every year, but it’s also a great opportunity for first-time players to come out, meet new people, and enjoy the day. We’re proud to keep this tradition alive and growing,” said Butler.
With another successful tournament now in the books, the Sands Golf Tournament—one that, with each passing year, builds on its reputation for good times, good golf, and great beer.
