PHA Found Responsible for Infant’s Death Hours After Birth

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Public Hospitals Authority has been found responsible for the death of an infant within hours of her birth at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Baby Elizabeth Lundy died of perinatal asphyxia two hours after she was born on August 2, 2022.

Acting Justice Raynard Rigby KC has ruled that Widline Guillaume, the mother of the deceased Elizabeth Lundy, is entitled to damages, which have yet to to be assessed.

The judge ruled that the hospital and obstetrician Dr Agatha Foulkes-Mackey fell below the required standard of care by failing to monitor Ms Guillaume and her baby between 4.10am and 4.37am as she waited to enter the operating theatre.

He ruled that the failure to monitor the baby caused her death.
