NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Residents breathing a sigh of relief today as pharmacies across New Providence have reopened their doors.

One resident says he took drastic steps to get his medication.

During the temporary closure, public clinics extended their hours to meet the demands of residents. This resident says she’s pleased that the pharmacies have reopened because the clinics did not have what they need.

Pharmacies across the nation temporarily closing on Tuesday after members of The Bahamas Pharmaceutical Association insisted the price change enforced by the government gave them no time to adjust.

According to the BPA, the list of products impacted by the government’s price control amendment represents some 60-70 percent of the revenue generated by local pharmacies and pharmaceutical wholesalers and is threatening their ability to survive in an already challenging business environment.

Speaking to reporters outside of parliament this morning, Prime Minister Philip Davis says he’s happy to know that the pharmacies have reopened their doors and that they are consulting with the BPA.
