NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The man accused of stabbing and running over his girlfriend in 2021 has taken a plea deal.

Ray Sands admitted to beating and stabbing Petra Curry as she held their one-year-old daughter outside her Key West Street home on November 15.

After bystanders stopped the assault and took the infant inside, Sands knocked down Curry with his Nissan Note and ran over her as she lay in the street.

Sands pleaded guilty to attempted murder and exposing a child to grievous harm when he appeared before Senior Justice Bernard Turner.

He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder and four years’ imprisonment for exposing a child to grievous harm. The sentences will be served at the same time.

Sands, who worked as a clerk in the accounts department at the Supreme Court, was never granted bail in the matter.

As a result, the one year and seven months that he spent on remand will be deducted from his sentences.
