NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Tensions flaring Tuesday night as political supporters clashed over the attempted movement of ballot boxes from Police HQ to the Parliamentary Registration Department, which sparked confusion and raises fresh concerns about transparency in the electoral process.

Free National Movement and Coalition of Independents supporters created a chaotic scene, questioning the timing and handling of the transfer.

However, this matter adds to previous concerns that have only intensified over the last few weeks.

Last month, a Parliamentary Registration Department worker was arrested and charged in connection with a fraudulent voter’s card.

Then last week, the voter register was released, but it contained errors.

We put those concerns to PLP Chairman and Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell, who downplayed the incident, and outright rejected claims of any wrongdoing.

“What it appears to me is that the FNM was trying to set up a pretext to say that somehow there was something wrong with the election and that’s why they lost the election. I mean, this is ridiculous, it’s a routine thing.”

“They should stop over-dramatizing things and becoming drama queens, crybabies, whatever expression you want to do…we choose and we’ll continue to just cooperate with the parliamentary commissioner.”

Mitchell also shuts down broader concerns surrounding the election, including reports of alleged fraudulent documents, insisting the system remains intact.

“The fact is, like the whole story of fraudulent documents, that’s all rubbish. There’s no fraudulent documents affecting the election. This is just craziness. It’s just absolute craziness.”

Furthermore, he doubled down on that position, saying concerns being raised amount to political talk rather than fact.

Fred Mitchell – Chairman, Progressive Liberal Party

“There’s nothing wrong with the integrity of the election. These are just FNM talking points. That’s all it is. Their job is to rattle their cages. Their polling is showing that they’re losing the election.”
