PLPs Confident In A Win

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Progressive Liberal Party candidate Darron Pickstock received strong support at the polls Monday morning, as PLP members of Parliament and Cabinet ministers turned out in full force, including Prime Minister Philip Davis, who said he expects a win once PLP supporters show up to vote.

Excited supporters lined the sidewalk as Davis arrived at Anatol Rodgers High School, the largest polling station for the by-election.

“I’m not hearing anything but that we are strong,” Davis said.
“Our voters are coming out, and the day is still early. We expect to win.”

This marks the Davis administration’s second by-election, coming almost one year after voters in West Grand Bahama and Bimini selected a new MP following the death of Obie Wilchcombe.

Pickstock, greeted by a cheering crowd dressed in gold, said he feels confident the seat will remain PLP.

“The response has been supportive completely,” he said.
“We’ve been received very positively going door to door, and we’re expecting victory today.”

With tensions still lingering from last week’s advanced poll chaos, both Davis and Pickstock were asked whether they anticipated any repeat of those events. Davis said he believes police have taken corrective steps.

“I would hope not. I think the police would have learned their lesson on how to minimize such events,” he said.

Pickstock also expressed confidence in law enforcement.

“The Royal Bahamas Police Force did their jobs, and they’re going to do the same today,” he said.
“It’s unfortunate the other side carried on the way they did, but we’re expecting everything to go smoothly.”

Among those showing their support was Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, who said Pickstock’s strong ground campaign has positioned the PLP well.

“He’s seen most of the constituents… we had a strong team and good machinery. I’m confident we reached as many residents as we could.”

Labour Minister Pia Glover-Rolle echoed the sentiment.

“They are choosing stability and progress,” she said.
“We’re here to bring this victory across the finish line and make sure voters turn out.”

Central and South Eleuthera MP Clay Sweeting also praised Pickstock for already pushing on key issues in the area.

“He’s been an advocate for infrastructure and drainage work, needs you can feel on the ground,” Sweeting said.
“That representation will continue after he’s elected as MP for Golden Isles.”

With high turnout and heavy political backing, the PLP is expressing full confidence as the Golden Isles by-election unfolds.
