NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A shocking crime became even more startling after police revealed more tragic details about the death of 12-year-old Adriel Moxey.

The seventh-grade student at anatol rodgers high school was found dead in bushes near Faith Avenue South last Wednesday, a day after she was reported missing.

Police said she was wearing only a shirt, with a cloth tied around her neck.

During a press conference at police headquarters Monday morning, Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander revealed how her life was brutally cut short.

“The cause of death for the young child is strangulation,” he said. “We can safely say that she was sexually assaulted.”

A day after she was found dead, police arrested a 32-year-old suspect in the Cowpen Road area.

“During his arrest he, there was an altercation with the officers,” the police commissioner said.

“He assaulted the officers. One of the officers received injuries and he was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries. He was arrested and presently detained at PMH.”

The commissioner said their information is that he’s a known patient from Sandilands.

“I just spoke to one of the doctors before coming over,” Fernander said. “He is being released from PMH and being taken to Sandilands for further evaluation.”

Police are not saying how they connected him to the brutal crime.

But the top cop did say the suspect was a patient at the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center and so far they’ve been unable to question him about the crime due to doctor’s orders.

“We know that we are unable to speak to him at this time,” Fernander said. “The doctor is saying we are unable to speak to him because of his condition at this time.”

While police wait to question the suspect, Fernander says police are preparing to send evidence they’ve collected to a DNA lab for processing.
