INDONESIA – At least 16 people have died following a fire at a retirement home in the city of Manado, Indonesia, according to local police.

The blaze broke out Sunday at the Werdha Damai Retirement Home, with authorities still investigating the cause.
Manado Police Chief Irham Halid said postmortem examinations and DNA testing will be conducted to help identify victims.
Video from the scene showed flames tearing through the building, lighting up the night sky, as residents appeared to help an elderly person escape.
Survivors were treated at Manado Regional General Hospital, mainly for burns and trauma.
