NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Members of the Bahamas Public Services Union withdrawing their labour at the General Post Office, they say their issues center on the Acting General Postmaster, who was appointed back in October 2024.

Today, she pushed back, defending her reputation as the group says they’re prepared to sit out until the matter is resolved.

The normal and quiet scene at the General Post Office was turned upside down Wednesday morning of April 16th, 2025 as a group of disgruntled employees withdrew their services amid issues with the Acting Postmaster General.

One by one, employees who are also members of the Bahamas Public Services Union shared personal experiences pushing them to take action and withdraw their services, with one of them recounting a physical altercation.

According to Bahamas Public Services Union President Kimsley Ferguson, the contractual appointment was made in the presence of the substantive holder of the office that Johnson serves in. The union believes the appointment is political.

The group is appealing to the government to have her removed, adding that the government is abusing its power of appointments in the face of qualified people who have long served in the industry.

Acting Postmaster General Shervonne Johnson assured that operations were not impacted by the action.

She defended her tenure, saying the group that sat out today is against change.
