NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The body of former Social Services Information and Broadcasting Minister Obie Wilchcombe was escorted from the foyer of the House of Assembly to Christ Church Cathedral for his official state funeral.

He was met by a packed church. There was even a tent outside to hold those who couldn’t fit inside.

Tributes to Wilchcombe following his passing had a similar theme threads of a man gone too soon.

Prime Minister Philip Davis insisting lessons could be learned from Wilchcombe’s life.

Former Prime Minister Perry Christie appointed Wilchcombe to his cabinet twice as minister of tourism.

He said Wilchcombe’s sudden death reminds him of the certainty and finality of death. He says it reminds him of a Psalm he often recites.

In his tribute to Wilchcombe that at times garnered laughter from the congregation, Free National Movement Leader Michael Pintard is remembered as a consummate storyteller and a statesman.

In his eulogy, the very Reverend Harry Bain who served in the church Wilchcombe attended said he lived a life of service and love.
