NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The prime minister rushed away by protocol officers when questioned by the press Thursday evening. It came after this week’s press briefing was called off just three days after it was revealed that cabinet briefings would be canceled for a combined, more comprehensive Q&A.

Days after the Office of the Prime Minister canceled cabinet day questions for a more comprehensive press briefing. Thursday’s briefing was canceled and the prime minister was whisked away by protocol officers when questioned about a shakeup at the Department of Immigration.

The move came after a press conference with Botswana’s President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi wrapped up a state visit to The Bahamas.

During the presser, reporters were encouraged to only ask questions strictly to the event and not to any other issues.

However, during the Q&A, Botswana press asked their president other questions relating to their national issues.

On Monday, Our News got word that cabinet briefings would be canceled. The note from OPM said there will be a combined comprehensive weekly briefing to promote efficiency. But that didn’t happen…

On Thursday, reporters were told the prime minister would take two questions following the event. One of those questions was surrounding reports the top brass of the immigration will be moved out and a former director moved in.

But when asked this happened……..

The Nassau Guardian reported that Acting Director Keturah Ferguson will be put on leave. The move which some are chalking up to victimization comes weeks after leaked highlighted concerns within the department.

The prime minister was also asked about The Bahamas Electrical Workers Union attaining a strike certificate and the impact it would have on consumers.
