NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prosecutors say they plan to appeal the recent acquittal of the son of opposition senator Darren Henfield on gun and ammunition charges, opening the door for a new trial.

Gun Court Magistrate Lennox Coleby Sr acquitted former Police Constable Dreyon Henfield of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following a trial.

Henfield was arrested at the Tight Pocket Bar on Cowpen Road last March after police officers allegedly took a loaded gun from him.

Coleby rejected the prosecution’s case after the defense produced surveillance footage that contradicted the testimony of police officers.
