NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As the country recently recorded the drowning deaths of three young boys just weeks apart, public outcry has heightened about keeping kids safe during summer months. Tonight, our Megan Shepherd speaks to The Bahamas Red Cross about life saving techniques.

Volunteers of The Bahamas Red Cross, like lifeguard and CPR instructor, Crystal Carey, are emphasizing the need for public awareness.

Now, if you consider yourself a strong swimmer and attempt to rescue someone that is drowning, Carey says there may be risks involved.

First aid instructor, Norma Roberts, says it’s also important to ensure that your children are aware of CPR techniques.

Registered Nurse, Tamara Carey is reminding parents to be vigilant, particularly at large family gatherings and when alcohol is present.

She says the difference between a few seconds and a few minutes could mean life or death.
