NASSAU, BAHAMAS – One week after the brutal death of Omar Davis Jr., his family sat in the public gallery of the magistrate’s court Monday to witness formal charges placed on a suspect accused of his killing.

His mother also spoke exclusively with our Jerome Sawyer shortly after to talk about her son and his death in a case that has gained nationwide attention.

Gia Whymns was preparing to see her son Omar Davis Jr. off to begin a new life, in a matter of days. A new job was awaiting him in Atlanta with the prestigious accounting firm Deloitte and Touche.

However, a week after his decomposing body was found here in a plastic bag – in the trunk of a car – his mother and family are awaiting an autopsy and the release of his body to begin planning his funeral.

Just hours after a suspect was charged in court his mother told me the kind of relationship they shared.

A straight-A student. A recent honours graduate with a double major from Central State University, the world was his oyster.
Whymns says his brutal death reveals an ugly truth about who are.

And, although he’s gone, she hopes who he was, inspires others to achieve – despite the odds.
