Regional Talent to Showcase at Goombay Cup

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The future of Caribbean women’s football will be on display this weekend as the Bahamas Football Association’s (BFA) Under-15 girls Goombay Soccer Cup kicks off in Nassau.

The tournament will run July 24th through the 26th at the R.A.L.D. Soccer facility, bringing together some of the region’s brightest young talent.

Six national teams are scheduled to compete, including Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Grenada, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the host, The Bahamas.

Marketed as the “best of Caribbean football,” the event provides a valuable international competition opportunity for the region’s rising players as they continue their development at the youth level.

For The Bahamas, the Goombay Soccer Cup represents an opportunity to compete on home soil against some of its Caribbean rivals while continuing to grow the women’s game locally.

Bahamas Finishes Fourth at Cazova Final Four

Team Bahamas finished fourth at the 2026 Cazova Men’s Fnal Four Championship in Curaçao, just missing out on a podium finish after falling to Trinidad and Tobago in the bronze medal match.

The Bahamas dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision with set scores of 25-20, 25-27, 29-27 and 25-22.

After losing the opening set, The Bahamas battled back to level the match by claiming the second set, but Trinidad and Tobago edged a thrilling third set 29-27 before closing out the match in the fourth.

The result marked the second time Trinidad and Tobago had defeated The Bahamas during the tournament.

The tournament opened with a straight-sets loss to Trinidad and Tobago, 25-19, 25-13, 31-29.

The Bahamas showed their best volleyball in the third set, pushing the match deep into extra points before coming up just short.

In their second preliminary match, The Bahamas were defeated by Barbados in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.

The Bahamas remained competitive throughout the match but were hurt by unforced errors, as head coach Glenn Rolle said his team was too inconsistent against a disciplined Barbados side.

Despite the 0-2 start, The Bahamas advanced to the bronze medal match under the four-team format, where they turned in their strongest performance of the tournament before ultimately finishing fourth.

Honey Badgers, 3Lynx Capture Sand Wars Titles

The 2026 Sand Wars Beach Flag Football Tournament delivered another exciting weekend of competition, as 3Lynx successfully defended their men’s title while the Honey Badgers claimed the women’s championship at the Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Stadium.

The three-day event continued to showcase the growth of flag football in The Bahamas, bringing together some of the top teams from across the region for competition on the sand.

The tournament opened in style with a ceremony featuring former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones, and United States Ambassador to The Bahamas Herschel Walker, who helped welcome participants and emphasized the sport’s rapid growth.

Their presence highlighted the rising profile of the event as flag football continues to build momentum ahead of its olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

With back-to-back championships for 3Lynx and a women’s title for the Honey Badgers, the 2026 edition further established Sand Wars as one of the Caribbean’s premier beach flag football events.
