Residents React to Pride Flag at U.S. Ambassador Home

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With June 1st marking the start of Pride Month for the LGBTQ+ community internationally, U.S Charge d’Affaires Usha Pitts hoisting the pride flag at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence. The flag was also hoisted at U.S. Embassy office on Queens Street. Some residents disagree with the move.

One resident questions the validity of The Bahamas’ status as a Christian nation.

In a Facebook post, Executive Director for The Bahamas organization of LGBTI Affairs Alexus D’Marco shared her desire to see Bahamians open their hearts symbolically and legislatively to include its members as equals in our society.

Dexter Knowles says he used to oppose the movement but has learnt to let individuals live their lives.
