NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In just over two weeks, the Atlantic Hurricane Season begins but executives from the Department of Meteorology and the Disaster Risk Management Unit are emphasizing the importance of being prepared now.

Department of Meteorology Director Jeffery Simmons, says this year is expected to be slightly below average.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Carl Fancis Smith spoke to the importance of staying tuned to your local forecasters during storms.

The Department of Social Services is responsible for ensuring all islands are fully prepared with shelters in the event of evacuations.
