NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some grocery retailers threatened to remove certain items off the shelves last week, following the prime minister’s announcement that thirty-eight items have been added to the price control list. Well, those retailers had an opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Philip Davis this week to address those concerns.

News of 38 items being added to the price control list not sitting well with retail grocers throughout the islands, causing many of them to speak out about the move.

This led to Prime Minister Philip Davis holding a meeting with the relevant stakeholders to hear their concerns.

Attorney John Bostwick, who represents The Bahamas Retail Grocers Association says that meeting went well, noting that consultation was one of the major concerns expressed.

Now, Bostwick says as a result of that meeting, the government has now engaged retailers and wholesalers in a consultation period.

Now changes to those grocery items on price control were expected to take effect on October 17. But those changes wont be made until after the consultation process.
