NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As activist groups continue to lobby for the protection of people against violence, RISE Bahamas is seeking to ensure that children fall within that category, and are prioritized.

Earlier this month police reported an increase in cases of unlawful sexual intercourse…

Activist and President of RISE Bahamas Terneille Burrows says stiffer penalties are needed for people convicted of crimes against children.

Burrows is also calling for restorative justice, noting that once perpetrators are charged and jailed it is also important to ensure that there are proper rehabilitation programs.

Earlier this month a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted after she was taken by a man while playing with friends outside her Lazaretto Road home.

Burrows says there needs to be greater concern for the safety of all children.
