FLORIDA – A routine traffic stop in Florida has uncovered weapons and landed three Bahamian men behind bars.

Authorities say nine firearms and more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition were found inside a white GMC truck during the stop.

Prosecutors allege the men, Ray Strachan, Trevor Brown and Marvin Clarke, were all planning to smuggle the weapons to The Bahamas by boat.

The arrests happened on April 18th after Florida Highway Patrol officers pulled over the truck, which had Texas license plates, because a front seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt.

Officers reported smelling marijuana and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered multiple firearms and ammunition stored in bins in the truck’s bed.

Investigators say Strachan, who is reported to be absent without leave, marine from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, told officers they were heading to a marina.

He also allegedly stated that Clarke had hired him and Brown to transport two vessels to The Bahamas.
