SAINT LUCIA – The Government of Saint Lucia officially launched its Newborn Grant Program, providing a one-time payment of EC$1,000 to mothers of eligible newborns.

The program took effect August 1 following a commitment made by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre in the 2026/2027 budget and applies only to babies born on or after that date.

The Newborn Grant complements existing maternal and child healthcare services, including free laboratory testing, ultrasound services for expectant mothers, and community healthcare programs aimed at improving outcomes for mothers and babies.

Other family-focused measures introduced under the 2026/2027 budget include the removal of VAT on essential food items, expanded support through the school feeding program, and increased assistance for pensioners.
