USA – Caroline Ellison, the former head of Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto hedge fund, took the stand Tuesday as the prosecution’s star witness against the FTX founder.

Ellison, who was Bankman-Fried’s girlfriend, pleaded guilty in December to fraud. From the stand, Ellison had to look around the courtroom for nearly 30 seconds before identifying Bankman-Fried.

Ellison, the former head of Bankman-Fried’s crypto hedge fund and the government’s star witness in the criminal fraud case against the FTX founder, testified Tuesday that she and her ex-boss defrauded customers, investors and lenders. Ellison said, “Yes, we did,” when Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon asked if she committed a crime.

If convicted in the trial that began a week ago, Bankman-Fried could spend his life in prison. He has pleaded not guilty.
