NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Georgia beauty queen Lindsay Shiver is expected to stand trial in January after losing her bid to have a murder conspiracy case against her thrown out.

The American woman is accused alongside two Bahamian men, Terrance Bethel and Farron Newbold, of plotting to kill her estranged husband, insurance executive Robert Shiver, in July 2023, amid contentious divorce proceedings.

The alleged plot reportedly came to light during an unrelated police investigation in Abaco, where authorities uncovered messages allegedly detailing plans to murder her husband.

Shiver challenged the court’s jurisdiction, arguing that she was outside The Bahamas when the alleged conspiracy was formed and therefore could not be prosecuted locally.

However, Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson rejected that argument, ruling that conspiracy is a continuing offence, and that shiver’s physical absence from the country did not prevent Bahamian courts from hearing the case.

The court ruled that there was no evidence that Shiver had withdrawn from the alleged agreement before travelling to Abaco.

The high-profile case has attracted international media attention since shiver’s arrest in 2023.

All three accused have denied the allegations and remain on bail as they await trial.
