WORLDWIDE – Spirit Airlines filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday, citing pandemic recovery struggles, stiff competition, and a failed JetBlue merger.

Despite $2.5 billion in losses since 2020 and $1 billion in looming debt, the airline said it will continue normal operations, honoring bookings and frequent-flyer points.

Spirit is shifting its no-frills model, but analysts say rivals like Frontier and Southwest stand to gain.
