Strachan Cleared and Ready for West Virginia Season

UNITED STATES – Bahamian wide receiver Prince Strachan is preparing for a new chapter in his college football career, with the West Virginia Mountaineers set to open the 2026 season on September 5 against Coastal Carolina.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Freeport native transferred to West Virginia after previous stops at Boise State and USC, and he is expected to bring size and experience to Rich Rodriguez’s receiving corps.

Strachan’s transition to Morgantown has included a shoulder injury suffered during spring practice, but Rodriguez recently confirmed that the Bahamian receiver had been cleared and returned to full practice.

The Mountaineers are looking for Strachan to become a big target in the passing game, particularly with his size and experience. Rodriguez has described him as an experienced big body, and Strachan has been putting in extra work to learn the offence and improve the details of his route running and releases.

For Strachan, the goal is simple, stay healthy, earn a significant role and turn his potential into production.

NCAA Basketball

Brent Moss is on the move again, with the former UTSA forward entering the transfer portal and heading to the University of Tulsa for the upcoming college basketball season.

The move gives Moss an opportunity to build on a promising first Division I campaign at UTSA, where he averaged 9.6 points and 4.7 rebounds in 29 games, including three double-doubles.

Moss showed his offensive potential in a big way against South Florida, pouring in a career-high 32 points while shooting seven-for-nine from three-point range.

He also had a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double against Rice to close out the season.

The Tulsa move comes after Moss took an unconventional route to Division I. He played at Barton Community College, where he helped the Cougars win the 2024 NJCAA National Championship, then earned second-team NJCAA All-American honours after a season averaging 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds.

Now Moss enters his next chapter with Tulsa, looking to turn his first-year Division I experience into a bigger role and greater production.

For the Bahamian forward, the transfer is another step in a rapidly developing college career.

Sailing

Bahamian sailors Paul De Souza and Joshua Higgins are continuing the country’s push toward the 2028 Olympic Games, with both competing in the ILCA 7 class on the international circuit.

De Souza is currently representing the Bahamas at the 2026 ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, where he is part of a 141-sailor field representing 45 countries.

The world championship provides another high-level test for De Souza as he builds toward the Olympic qualification campaign.

The 2026 event also features a significant Bahamian connection beyond De Souza, with Higgins having already established himself as one of the country’s most experienced international ILCA 7 sailors.

Higgins, who hails from Harbour Island, has been a trailblazer for Bahamian sailing. He became the first Bahamian sailor to qualify for the ILCA 7 at the Pan American Games, and the first Bahamian to compete at the ISAF World Championships, ILCA 7 World Championships and Senior European Championships.

He represented the Bahamas at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, finishing 17th in the ILCA 7 field.

Higgins also competed at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, where he finished 13th in the ILCA 7 event.

The 2026 campaign has already produced another major milestone for Higgins. He won his first ILCA 7 Bahamas National Championship in April, finishing as the top Bahamian at the nationals.

He also qualified the Bahamas for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games ILCA 7 event, finishing second overall at the pre-CAC qualifier in Santo Domingo in 2025.

De Souza has an impressive international background of his own. He started in the Optimist class and represented the Bahamas at the 2014 Youth Olympics, while also competing at three Youth World Sailing Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He is a multi-time Bahamas ILCA national champion.

The two sailors have also been competing directly for the top spot among Bahamian ILCA 7 sailors. At the 2025 ILCA Bahamas Open Senior Nationals, De Souza finished second overall and as the top Bahamian, with Higgins third.

Now, their attention is on the bigger objective.

The Bahamas is looking to qualify an ILCA 7 sailor for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, with De Souza and Higgins both part of that campaign.

For De Souza, the world championship in Ireland provides an opportunity to test himself against the world’s best.

For Higgins, his experience at the Pan American Games, World Championships, European Championships and other international events has already given him a head start in that Olympic journey.
