Study Finds Late-Stage Breast Cancer Rising, Especially Among Black Women

WORLDWIDE – A new study published in Radiology reveals that late-stage breast cancer diagnoses are rising across all ethnic groups, with Black women hit hardest. The study found that Black women are 55% more likely to be diagnosed with advanced cancer compared to White women and are more likely to die from it.

Despite similar mammography rates, Black women often face more aggressive cancers and barriers to timely care. The COVID-19 pandemic is said to have worsened the issue, causing missed screenings. Experts suggest increasing screenings, expanding healthcare access, and early risk assessments to help reduce late-stage diagnoses and improve survival rates.
