Sustainability First: Coral Is Calling Targets Reef Restoration

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Director General in the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation Latia Duncombe says the “Coral Is Calling” campaign can help preserve what she calls the country’s “underwater wonderland” as she says the ocean makes up 95% of the exclusive economic zone in The Bahamas.

Coral restoration has been a hot topic since the discovery of stony coral tissue loss disease having spread to The Bahamas.

The disease is highly lethal to coral, and since first being discovered off the coast of Florida about 10 years ago, has spread to over 20 countries.

Beyond the ecological urgency of restoring these reefs, Duncombe says these days, tourists are looking for more environmentally conscious vacations.
