Sustainability First: Making Public Transportation “Greener”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Carpooling and use of public transport are often the first pieces of advice given on how to reduce your carbon footprint.

But the climate change crisis we’re facing might call for things to go a step further. 

We already have extensive bus routes here in New Providence, but around the world, some countries are going beyond that.

Making moves to decarbonize public transport with renewable energy methods. 

In a report released by the International Association of Public Transport last summer, 58 public transport operators and authorities were surveyed; of that number, 85% include energy transition to renewable energy in their strategy, 73% have goals to achieve carbon neutrality, and 55% will have implemented science-based targets in the coming years.

Now, how can we take steps toward decarbonizing public transport here in The Bahamas?
