Taking Off for Summer: Bookings, New Routes, New Minister

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bahamasair is preparing for what’s expected to be another busy summer travel season, with bookings already showing strong demand months ahead.

At a press conference last week, Managing Director Tracy Cooper says the national flag carrier is seeing encouraging signs as travel picks up across the country.

“What we’re saying so far for the summer is that nothing has changed. We see that the summer is starting to be strong. We’re seeing for instance, starting to book up. Typically, our booking window is anywhere from about two to three weeks, with the exception of the summer.”

Staying true to their slogan “We don’t just fly here, we live here,” Cooper also announced expanded service to the family islands, including added routes to Cat Island following the reopening of the Arthur’s Town Airport.

“Starting the second week in June, we’ll start a route into Cat Island…[as] The Arthur’s Town Airport just recently opened.”

“It had been shut down for a while, and we think that we can have some opportunities there.”

Meanwhile, with a new minister of tourism now being sworn in, Cooper says Bahamasair remains committed to working to strengthen the country’s tourism product and inter-island connectivity.

He says the airline is ready to present its strategic plan and continue playing its role in national development.

“We have a strategic plan, and obviously whoever the new minister is, I will present that to him or her, and make sure that they understand what it is that we want.”

“Obviously we’ll look, listen to any additional inputs, but overall Bahamasair is to provide inter-island travels, us being an island nation, and also to provide or assist with the tourism product where ever we can.”
