NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The opportunities were there again on match day two and this time, Team Bahamas cashed in.
The hosts overcame an early deficit to defeat the USA 3-2, and earn their first win of this year’s CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships.
The Bahamas got goals from Wood Julmis – his second of the tournament – Brandon Adderley, and Timothy Munnings.
Cody Valcarcel placed the USA on the board first with his goal at the seventh minute of the first period.
In the second, Adderley scored the equalizer for team bahamas at minute four.
Then in the third, The Bahamas got the go ahead goal from Julmis, and another from Munnings to seal the win.
The Bahamas returns to the sand tonight to take on Trinidad and Tobago at 8pm.
A win secures a place in the semifinal.
Track & Field
Perennial contenders are in a heated race to keep their streaks alive after day one of the G.S.S.S.A. Track and Field Championships.
In junior schools, the C.H. Reeves Raptors are seeking their fifth straight title and in seniors, the C.R. Walker Knights are chasing eight straight.
The Raptors’ title defence is off to a promising start, leading the field with 377.5 points.
The S.C. McPherson sharks are second with 332.5, the D.W. Davis Royals are third with 233, H.O. Nash Lions in fourth with 226.5 and the A.F. Adderley Tigers fifth with 216.
In senior, C.V. Bethel was out front with 231 points, followed by the Knights at 203 points, C.C. Sweeting Cobras with 111, R.M. Bailey Pacers in fourth with 108, and the Government High School rounds out the top five with 100 points.
NCAA Basketball
It was an active night for Bahamians in Big 12 basketball as the chase for seeding in the NCAA Tournament continues.
Both VJ Edgecombe and AJ Storr moved on to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals.
Storr scored a career high 19 points and the Kansas Jayhawks rallied to force overtime and eventually outlasted the UCF Knights 98-94 in the second round.
He shot 7-11 from the field and 3-5 from three point range.
Edgecombe and the Baylor Bears advanced with a 70-56 win over the Kansas State Wildcats.
He had his second double-doubLe of the season with 19 point and 10 rebounds.
Looking ahead to tonight Baylor is on the floor right now taking on the nationally ranked number 9 – Texas Tech Red Raiders, while Kansas will face the Arizona Wildcats at 9:30 pm.
